Cellulite – things you should know.

Known by many, loved by few: What is really behind the phenomenon known as “orange-peel skin”? SLIMYONIK® informs you about the latest scientific findings.

What is cellulite?

Cellulite is a non-inflammatory, cosmetic alteration of fat tissue that occurs predominantly in women. More than 85 % of women over the age of 20 are affected by cellulite, and its occurrence is associated with both obesity and weak connective tissue. The typical symptom is sagging, dimpled skin, especially on the thighs, bottom, belly, hips, and upper arms.

Cellulite in women is divided into three cosmetic stages:
Visible dimples remain after pinching the thigh
Dimples are only visible when standing, but not when lying down
Cellulite is also visible when lying down

How does cellulite develop?

Cellulite occurs when too much fat accumulates in fat cells, or when fat cells swell due to hormonal fluctuations. As a result, the enlarged cells press on the skin and make the collagen bands visible, which is perceived as “dimples”. They can also press on small blood and lymphatic vessels, causing slight congestion.

How can cellulite be treated?

The treatment of cellulite can be supported by regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient hydration. Procedures such as lymphatic drainage can also be helpful. Liposuction can remove fat tissue, but the typical “orange-peel” appearance often remains or may reappear.
